Product Review: Oral I.V.

Image

I recently had the opportunity to try Oral I.V., a rapid hydration ultra concentrate.

Their mission:

ORAL I.V.® is a game-changing approach to performance. As a water-based dietary supplement, ORAL I.V. aids the hydration process for individuals who train hard, work hard and are committed to peak performance.

It does not contain any sugars, caffeine or stimulants, additives, preservatives or artificial ingredients. You can consume it as it or add it to water before, during and after activities. You can also use it as a supplement to daily activities that may aid in dehydration.

Depending on what your activity level is, you may take one vial for every 4 to 6 hours of strenuous activity. You may use it one your rest and recovery days.

Each package contains 4 vials (15.0 ml per dose).

As a runner, I mixed one vial with water before a 4 mile run on Saturday morning. I could not stomach the taste (bland, kind of chalky) but chugged it down. During the run I felt good, no cramps or stiffness, and didn’t feel the need to slow down because I was approaching the deadly hills! I had another vial after my run for recovery.

I would continue to use the product but somehow or another I have to stomach the taste.

*This is my personal review. I was not paid nor endorsed by Oral I.V.*

Recipe Review: Chocolate Raspberry Smirnoff Cake

Image

Surfing around on other blogs, websites, pages, etc. that I follow, I came across this delicious sounding cake from Easy Chef Recipes.

Chocolate…Raspberry…..Smirnoff…..yes please! The recipe called for raspberry Schnapps but I could not find it in the store (unless I’m blind which may be a possibility!).

Very easy to make, moist and delicious!

 Chocolate Raspberry Smirnoff Cake

Ingredients:
1 (18.25 ounce) box chocolate cake mix with pudding in the mix
3 eggs
1/2 cup cold water
1/2 cup raspberry schnapps
1/2 cup vegetable oil

Glaze:
1 tablespoon butter
1/4 cup cold water
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup raspberry schnapps

Instructions for cake:
1) Mix above ingredients together and pour into a bundt pan.
2) Bake at 325 degrees F for 40 to 45 minutes.
3) Let cool and remove cake from pan.

Instructions for glaze:
1) Combine butter, water and sugar in saucepan and bring to a boil. Boil 5 minutes.
2) Remove from heat. Stir in raspberry schnapps.
3) Using a sharp knife, make slits in cake.
4) Brush glaze all over cake until all glaze is absorbed. Store in refrigerator.

I baked the cake for 40 minutes and it came out perfect. There is not a strong alcohol taste either! I shared this with a few other friends and they enjoyed it!

Recipe Review: Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Creme Premium Cook Mix

ImageSo I’m at Walmart (as usual) in the baking isle and noticed a new cookie mix from Betty Crocker. My husband loves cookies ‘n’ creme so this is the reason why I picked I wanted to give it a try.

Looking at the back of the box, the ingredients and instructions were pretty easy and self explanatory.

Ingredients:
1/3 cup butter, softened (not melted)
3 tablespoons of water

You can also prepare it with vegetable oil by using 3 tablespoons of oil and 3 tablespoons of water.

Instructions:
1. Heat oven to 375 (or 350 for dark or nonstick cookie sheet). Stir cookie mix, softened butter and water in bowl until dough forms.

2. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet. (For 1 dozen larger cookies, drop dough by tablespoonfuls).

3. Bake as directed or until edges are set. Cool 1 minute before removing from cookie sheet. Cool completely; store in airtight container.

ImageI opted for the larger cookies and got about 15 of them. By baking them according to directions they turned out soft and tasty. They even tasted good the next day! I’m guessing my husband and son liked them, I didn’t hear otherwise.

Race Report: Bushwacker 5k

ImageThis is a long overdue race report! I completed this race on August 3rd!

The race was held at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 3rd. As usual in Florida it is hot at that time of the morning! It benefited the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Northwest Florida.

I got up around 5 (if I can remember right) because the drive to Pensacola is about 45 minutes. We had to park at the finish line because the start and finish were at two separate places. We were bussed to the start but had to walk about half a mile to get to the actual starting line.

Nothing going on at the start. There were a good amount of runners, music and someone talking on the microphone who none of us could barely hear! Off we go and it’s pretty crowded due to running along residential streets. My body felt great but I had to keep wiping sweat off of my forehead! Warm water was giving at the stations (no complaining, just took my few sips and kept going) and crowd support at various spots. The fun part was running across the bridge, the not fun part….it starts at an incline then downhill to the finish.

At the finish line there was music, water sprinklers, volunteers handing out cold wash cloths, and warm water (no complaints, I took it and said thank you). I got in my car and headed back to the house!
